Emergency Contact Card (ECC)
– An Initiative of International Iqbal Society
What is ECC?
Emergency Contact Card (ECC) is a program that enables first responders, such as paramedics, firefighters, police officers, hospital personnel, or anyone attending someone in an emergency situation to contact the next of kin to obtain important medical or support information.
Why one should keep ECC?
Emergency Contact numbers stored in phones are no longer a useful solution, as most modern smart phones are locked with a passcode.
ID cards do not have the information of next to kin and does not help in case of emergency.
This prevents medical staff from gaining access to your emergency contact. There are, however, other items you have on you at practically all times - your wallet, your school bag or your purse. While credit and ID cards have your name, more information is often needed in an emergency and smart phones are also locked most of the times. Having all the essential information accessible on one card could help medical responders provide the best help and care, and to contact your next of kin promptly.
How to obtain an ECC?
ECC is an idea, not a product.
All what you need is a small slip that can easily fit in your wallet with all the information you think you need in case someone finds you in case of emergency, not able to respond.
We suggest you to keep it really simple. We are sharing a template that is pretty standard and have just enough information. You can simply print this card (ideally in color) as RED color will grab the attention of someone looking for information in case of emergency.
You may also simply grab a piece of paper and write all this information and keep it with you at all times.
We also recommend you to get this card laminated so it remains readable even after sitting in your wallet for years.
Who should have this card?
You – Your family – Your parents – Your Kids
EVERYONE YOU CARE FOR!
Essentially, EVERYONE should have it at all times with no exceptions.
