70. To Revitalise the Dying Organism
A diseased social organism sometimes sets up within itself forces which have a tendency to preserve the health of the organism – e.g. the birth of a great Personality which may revitalise the dying organism by the revelation of a new ideal.
* This entry was incorporated into the paper ‘The Muslim
Community’ later the same year. The passage read: “… just as
an individual organism, in a state of disorder, sometimes
unconsciously sets up within itself forces which tend to its
health, so a social organism, under the corroding influence of
destructive forces, may sometimes call into being
counteracting forces – such as the appearance of an inspiring
personality, the birth of a new ideal, or a universal religious
reform – which tend to restore its original vitality…” – KAS.
