117. Literary Criticism
Literary criticism does not necessarily follow the creation of literature. We find Lessing at the very threshold of German literature.
* This reflection was also published in New Era, Lucknow, in 1917.
The first sentence was revised as “Literary criticism sometimes
precedes the creation of a great literature.” The phrase “at the very
threshold” was also changed to “on the very threshold” – KAS.
