Who sings this poignant song, blithe in spirit,
That gives a frenzied tone to wisdom’s voice?

Piety has the power of a mighty king,
But a king has no power without a domain.

The sufis no longer possess tile fakir’s power
The power that could win the bravest hearts.

What think you, O dervishes, of the man
Who has the thunderous force of the day of doom,

Who chants the name of God, aflame with love,
Whose thought is faster than a lightning flash?
